Unannounced Shipments to an IBX
An unannounced shipment is one that arrives at an IBX without an Inbound Shipment ticket. You must approve your unannounced shipment before it can be delivered to your cage.
An unannounced shipment must meet all the following conditions (otherwise it is rejected by the IBX):
-
The shipment is defined as a single air bill.
-
The shipment includes no more than 5 packages.
-
The shipment weight does not exceed 60 pounds or 27.2 kilograms.
-
The shipment can be hand-carried by one person without the use of heavy material-handling equipment (such as a pallet jack).
-
The shipped-from address is displayed.
If you're designated as a shipping contact, you'll receive a notification when an unannounced shipment arrives.
To approve or reject delivery of an unannounced shipment to your cage, choose Unannounced Shipments from the Operations menu in the Customer Portal.
If you accept the shipment, an Inbound Shipment ticket is automatically created in the Customer Portal.
Note: Shipments resolved more than 30 days ago are not shown on the Unannounced Shipments page.
To approve or reject an unannounced shipment, you need the following Customer Portal permissions:
-
IBX Services Notifications > Can Receive Shipment Notifications
-
Ordering > Shipments
For more information, see Permissions.
To specify the data centers you want to receive email notifications for:
-
Click your user name (at the upper-right corner of the portal screen) and select User Settings:
-
Click the Notification Preferences tab.
-
Choose Unannounced Shipment Notification Preferences.
-
Make changes as needed, then click Submit.
For more information, see Notification Preferences.
If you need to move a shipment between two data centers at the same campus, you must create an Inbound Shipment ticket and an Outbound Shipment ticket.
Example: To move a shipment from DC2 to DC5, create an Outbound Shipment for DC2 and an Inbound Shipment for DC5.
If the shipment exceeds our Unannounced Shipment Restrictions (described above), you must either arrange transportation with a third-party carrier, or submit a custom order to Equinix to receive a price quote.
If the shipment does not exceed the restrictions, you can request us to move the shipment for you via Smart Hands:
-
Create an Outbound Shipment ticket:
-
For the Shipment Method, choose Customer carry.
-
Under Shipment Handling, explain that you want Equinix to move the cross-campus shipment for you.
-
-
Create an Inbound Shipment ticket:
-
For the Shipment Method, choose Inbound Shipment (Customer Carry).
-
Under Shipment Handling, explain that you want Equinix to move the cross-campus shipment for you.
-
Important: Cross-campus requests may be delayed by weather and resource constraints. When shipping equipment to an IBX, be sure to ship it to the correct IBX in order to avoid these cross-campus transfers.
