End of Sale / End of Life for Equinix-Configured Devices

Effective February 28, 2023, Equinix no longer offers Equinix-configured virtual devices for renewal or purchase. Equinix will continue to offer the Self-configured device option with more flexibility and control of device versions, configuration, and management.

End of Support

Equinix will end its support of Equinix-configured devices starting in June 2024. The important dates for end of support are:

  • June 30, 2024 – If your Equinix-configured device is on a Month-to-Month term, it must be migrated to a Self-configured device by June 30, 2024.

  • Order Expiration Date – If your Equinix-configured device is on a Term Order (12, 24, or 36 months), it must be migrated to a Self-configured device by the Order expiration date.

You will be notified by email (which serves as notice of non-renewal) and are advised to plan for your Equinix-configured device migration at your earliest convenience. If you do not migrate to a self-configured device, the order will expire on the expiration date (for Term Orders), or on June 30, 2024 (for Month-to-Month Orders). Equinix-configured device will not be supported by Equinix after the End-of-Support date. For license subscriptions, there is no vendor support either. After the End-of-Support date, your device will not be disabled, shut down, or deleted. These devices will continue to be billed if not deleted. If any issues arise on the device, you will be asked to move to Self-configured device.

For any exiting orders of Equinix-configured device ending before June 30, 2024 shall be changed to the Month-to-Month Term, and devices must be migrated to a Self-configured before June 30, 2024. There will be no change in the price when the existing Terms are changed to Month-to-Month for this Equinix-configured device End-of-Life.

For any existing Orders of Equinix-configured device ending after June 30, 2024, Equinix will not renew the order due to the End-of-Life of Equinix-configured devices.

Preparing for Migration

Following steps outline the overall migration process:

  1. Identify your Equinix-configured devices through the Network Edge / Fabric portal.

  2. Plan a maintenance window for migration.

  3. Backup and download the configuration from your Equinix-configured device.

  4. Follow the migration Guide listed in the table below for your specific vendor type. Create a migrating device through self-guided tool listed in the Migration Guide or create a brand new device in the Network Edge portal. When you use the migration tool, you will receive the replacement device and new virtual connections at no charge for 30 days, including the Device Link Group associated with the new device. This offer is valid only for the Equinix-configured device to Self-configured device migration.

  5. Note: If you are planning to use the VC Self-guided migration tool described below, be aware that a new device needs to be created under the same Billing Account as one used for Virtual Connection. The VC Self-guided migration tool does not allow you to select a different billing account.

  6. Configure a new Self-configured device using CLI. Use your Equinix-configured device configuration as reference. If you select Bring Your Own License (BYOL) for the newly created device, you need to register your license on the new device.

  7. If you have a Device Link Group (DLG), migrate it from Equinix-configured to Self-configured device.

  8. Migrate your virtual connection from Equinix-configured to Self-configured device. You can create the brand new virtual connections on your self-configured device for migration, or use the VC Self-Guided Workflow available in Fabric Portal. Only one virtual connection can be migrated at a time when using the self-guided migration tool.

  9. Verify your connectivity and BGP session once all virtual connections are migrated.

Migration Method Example

You can choose to migrate your Equinix-configured device by preparing a new Self-configured virtual device and connections. You can configure both Self-configured virtual devices and connections to be operational in production and switch traffic over from the Equinix-configured device to the Self-configured device.

Note: The migration method may change based on your business requirements and priority.
