Equinix Internet Exchange (IX) allows networks to effectively exchange internet traffic. You can connect with peers through peering sessions and save time by managing your ports directly.

IX takes advanced measures to ensure the security of the platform by using the Internet Routing Registry, and offering BGP-based remotely triggered black hole filtering to drop DDoS attacks before they reach your router. This solution spans over 35 peering exchange points across the globe, with traffic peaks that exceed 10 terabits per second (Tbps).

Release Date

Internet Exchange 2024.01 is available in January, 2024.

Internet Exchange 2024.01

New and enhanced features are available in Internet Exchange, including support for resellers, additional peering capability, and metro expansions. In addition, ports for link aggregation groups can now be ordered from the portal.

Link Aggregation Groups

Now, options for link aggregation groups (LAGs) are offered during the ordering process for new Internet Exchange ports. Customers can create a new LAG from an existing port, or they can order a single port for a future LAG, or two active ports for a new LAG. For information about these options and the ordering process, see Order a Port.

Reseller Management

Internet Exchange resellers can now view and manage their own ports and port assignments for their sub-customers (end customers). In addition, resellers can assign a dedicated Internet Exchange port to their sub-customers. For instructions on displaying the status of Internet Exchange ports, viewing details about port ownership, and assigning ports, see Reseller Port Management.

Peering Participants in IBX Data Centers

Lists of peering participants for the metro locations with Internet Exchange services are now available on the Internet Exchange portal at https://ix.equinix.com. By clicking the IBX data centers in the Locations and Traffic map, users can view a list of who is peering within each specific metro. To learn more, see View Peering Participants.

Service Expansions

Internet Exchange services are available in more locations, especially in the AMER region. For the updated list of service locations for each region, see Product Availability.
