Fabric Port Requirements

Single Google Cloud Platform Interconnections

Creating a single Google Partner Interconnection from Equinix Fabric, you need to connect your Fabric port a Google Edge Availability Domains, Zone 1 or Zone 2. When you create a single VLAN attachment in the Google console or during the Equinix Quick Connect workflow, your pairing key will end with a /1 (Zone 1) or a /2 (Zone 2). Use this paring key when creating Partner Interconnect in the Fabric Portal.

Important: The Google Partner Interconnect Edge Availability Domains (Zone 1 or Zone 2) are not the same as the Google Cloud Region Availability Zone (where your workload resides). The purpose of Google Edge Availability Domain is to ensure redundancy for the Cloud Interconnect. Therefore, either VLAN attachment connected to Zone 1 or Zone 2 will be able to reach your workload in the specified Google Cloud Region Availability Zone.

To provision single connection to Google, you must have a primary or a secondary Fabric port. For information on how to order a Fabric port, see Order an Equinix Fabric Port. Use a primary Fabric port to connect to Google Edge Availability Domain Zone 1 (pairing key ending in /1) or a secondary port if you want to connect to Google Edge Availability Domain Zone 2 (pairing key ending in /2).

Tip: When you create a single VLAN attachment in Google Cloud Console, you cannot explicitly choose the Edge Availability Domain that the VLAN attachment will be assigned to. To make sure you have the correct pairing key available that matches your Fabric port priority, create connection using the Quick Connect workflow or create a pair of VLAN attachments, use the one that corresponds to your port, then delete the unused VLAN attachment.

Important: If you attempt to create a connection from a primary port to Zone 2 or a connection from a secondary port to Zone 1, you will receive an error message in the Fabric Portal and the provisioning of the connection will fail.

Redundant Google Cloud Platform Interconnections

To create redundant and diverse Google Partner Interconnections from Equinix Fabric, you need to connect your Fabric ports to two different Google Edge Availability Domains: Zone 1 and Zone 2. When you create redundant VLAN attachments in the Google console or during the Equinix Quick Connect workflow, your pairing keys will end with a /1 (Zone 1) and a /2 (Zone 2). Use these paring keys when creating Partner Interconnects in the Fabric portal.

To provision redundant connections to Google, you must have a primary and a secondary Fabric port. For information on how to order a Fabric port, see Order an Equinix Fabric Port. Connect your primary Fabric port to Google Edge Availability Domain Zone 1 (pairing key ending in /1) and your secondary port to Google Edge Availability Domain Zone 2 (pairing key ending in /2).

Important: If you attempt to create a connection from a primary port to Zone 2 or a connection from a secondary port to Zone 1, you will receive an error message in the Fabric Portal and the provisioning of the connection will fail.
