Smart Hands Responsible Electronics Disposal (SHRED)
Smart Hands for Responsible Electronic Disposal (SHRED) is a new sustainability-focused subtype on Smart Hands catalog to support self servicing request for electronic disposal of equipment or gear that are already in IBXs. Starting with offsite disposal service, the equipment to be disposed will be accounted and collected by our Smart Hands technicians to be handed over an authorised supplier to ship out in a secured vehicle to be disposed. Upon completion of the service, a digital Certificate of Destruction will be issued.
Note: The SHRED pilot program is currently available at all Singapore IBX's: SG1, SG2, SG3, SG4, and SG5.
SHRED orders are open for 90 days for completion, however actual completion is expected to be shorter than that. Upon completion, a Certificate of Destruction (COD) with a serialized list of equipment processed is provided through the SHRED order in ECP.
During the BETA pilot program, only the following equipment categories are supported:
-
Hard disks and storage media (all drives and media should be wiped by customers prior to collection by Smart Hands technicians)
-
Servers and storage arrays (expected October 2024)
-
Network appliances (expected October 2024)
All hard drives or storage media should be software wiped by customers prior to the collection by Smart Hands technicians for security reasons. Equipment in a single order will be securely transported to a processing facility to be processed. Any data bearing equipment will degaussed, crushed, shredded and physically destroyed. While the rest of the equipment will be assess to be refurbished or remarketed. If not functioning, equipment will be dismantled to functioning parts which will be refurbished or remarketed. Remaining non-functional parts will be recycled for metals in a environmentally and socially responsible manner.
Order SHRED through the ECP: select Colocation > Smart Hands > Responsible Electronic Disposal.
Complete the Responsible Electronic Disposal form.
Note: You will need to know the brand, model, and serial number of the equipment to be disposed. You can use a Smart Hands Audit request to obtain this information if necessary. And if the disposal requires dismounting from the cabinet or rack, use a Smart Hands Remove Equipment request prior to submitting the SHRED request.
