Equinix-Configured Devices vs. Self-Configured Devices

Equinix-deployed VNFs come in two options: Equinix-configured and Self-configured. The main difference between the two deployments is which entity is responsible for certain features and capabilities:

  • The Equinix-configured option can be thought of as a PaaS deployment, and gives less control of the VNF to the customer.
  • Important: The Equinix-configured option for all device types has been deprecated as of December 2022 and is no longer available for sale.

  • The Self-configured option is IaaS, and gives more control of the VNF to the customer.

Device Types

Note: All SD-WAN devices follow the Self-configured model because the main purpose of the Network Edge platform is to instantiate the device for the SD-WAN controller to manage.
