Multipoint-to-Multipoint Connections

Multipoint-to-Multipoint Connections Videos

Multipoint-to-multipoint networking enables users to interconnect their data center assets across many locations through a common network instead of requiring direct connections between individual locations. This topic describes how to create a private network and connect to that network from your EVPL or EPL ports.

The first step in using the multipoint-to-multipoint connectivity option is to create your private network. Then, you can add connections to that network.

Note: If you are creating an EP-LAN network, you will need to order new EPL ports. If you are creating an EVP-LAN network you need to order Dot1Q ports if you don’t already have them.

Pricing is the same for both network types.

Create a Network

  1. Sign in to Equinix Fabric.
  2. From the Connections menu, select Create Network.

  3. On the Create a Network page, review the information and click Next.

  4. Depending on where your assets are located, click Regional Network or Global Network. If you want to connect assets that solely reside within a particular region (AMER, EMEA, APAC), select a Regional Network. If you will be connecting assets globally, select a Global Network.

  5. If you are creating a Regional Network:

    • Select the region in which you want to create your network.

    • Select the Dot1Q Ports to create an EVP-LAN network, or select EPL Ports to create an EP-LAN network.

    • Enter a name for your network.

  6. If you are creating a Global Network:

    • Select the Dot1Q Ports to create an EVP-LAN network, or select EPL Ports to create an EP-LAN network.

    • Enter a name for your network.

  7. Click Next.

  8. Review your order and enter the email addresses of anyone who should receive notifications about this order. Your email address is automatically added by default.

  9. Click Submit Order.

  10. In the order confirmation screen, click View this Network in your Inventory to see the network.

Once you’ve created a network, you can then add connections to it.

Connect to your EVP-LAN Network

The Ethernet Virtual Private LAN (EVP-LAN) connectivity option allows you to create a private network and connect to that network from your EVPL ports. You can still have multiple connections from your EVPL ports and separate your data traffic using VLANs.

  6. Select your Network.

  7. In the Origin section, click Port.

Note: To connect a Network Edge device, click Virtual Device. For more information about connecting Network Edge devices to your EVP-LAN network, see EVP-LAN Support for Network Edge.
