Important: Equinix Connect has been upgraded to make ordering your Internet Access Service faster and simpler. For information about ordering new connections, see Equinix Internet Access.

Equinix Connect provides services that support allocation of your IP addresses. The available IP assignments supported by Equinix Connect are:

  • Provider Independent (PI)
  • Provider Assigned (PA)

The available IP address types are:

  • IPv4

Provider Independent (PI) IP Space

Independent provider IP addresses allow you to change service providers without re-numbering their networks to the end users. This method uses multiple access providers in a multi-homed configuration.

Note: PI space is obtained through your local Regional Internet Registry (RIR), such as ARIN in North America and RIPE in Europe.

You can request IP resources directly from these providers:

  • ARIN – American Registry for Internet Numbers, www.arin.net
  • RIPE – Réseaux IP Européens Network Coordination Centre, www.ripe.net
  • APNIC – Asia-Pacific Network Information Centre, www.apnic.net
  • LACNIC – Latin America and Caribbean Network Information Centre, www.lacnic.net

Note: You can also request IP resources from third parties and announce any space you legitimately own.

The valid route objects must be in place to accept announcements of the IP resources that you own. The minimum size that can be announced for this IP space is /24 for public IPv4 space and /64 for public IPv6 space.

Provider Assigned (PA) IP Space

You can purchase IPv4 and IPv6 addresses from Equinix for their LAN subnet. This space is non-portable and isn't announced through other providers unless connectivity is available to the Equinix-aggregated announcement.

Note: Initial Equinix assignments enable service interconnection between you and Equinix. You can't keep the address space after leaving the Equinix Connect transit platform.

Additional IP Allocation

  • APNIC administers IP space for Asia Pacific.
  • ARIN administers IP space for North America.
  • RIPE administers IP space for Europe and no longer issues IPv4 space, but continues to offer IPv6 space.

In every region, Equinix seeks to maintain a sufficient supply of PA IPv4 and IPv6 IP space to fulfill your requests for additional IP allocations.

Note: Any additional IP allocations are returned to Equinix upon termination of service.

The following addresses are available through the Equinix Connect - Additional IP Allocation product offering:

  • IPv4 – /30, /29, /28, /27, /26, /25, /24

  • IPv6 – /64, /48

These addresses can be purchased as IPv4 only, IPv6 only, or as a dual stack where IPv4 and IPv6 are combined.
