Mechanical System Alerts Reference

For the mechanical assets in your data center, Mechanical System Alerts notify you of the alarm conditions of all the underlying data points.

Early Smoke Detection

Devices which can detect smoke and fire are installed throughout the data center. When these detectors sense fire or smoke, they sound an alarm from a triggered system alert.

Data PointDefinitionValuesMeaningsSystem Alert Conditions
AlarmIndicates the VESDA system has detected smoke.NORMALNORMAL: No system alert presentALARM
ALARMALARM: Asset has a system alert
FaultIndicates the operation of VESDA falls outside defined parameters. VESDA might or might not continue to operate when a fault is present.NORMALNORMAL: No fault presentFAULT
ALARMALARM: Asset has a fault

Fire Alarm System

Devices which can detect smoke and fire are installed throughout the data center. When these detectors sense fire or smoke, they sound an alarm from a triggered system alert.

Data PointDefinitionValuesMeaningsSystem Alert Conditions
AlarmIndicates the fire alarm system has detected a fire.NORMALNORMAL: No fault presentALARM
ALARMALARM: Asset has a fault
TroubleIndicates the operation of the fire alarm system falls outside defined parameters.NORMALNORMAL: No system alert presentTROUBLE
TROUBLEALARM: Asset readings are outside accepted parameters

Cooling Plant

Devices designed to maintain environmental conditions suitable for data center operation. The heat produced by the data center equipment must be removed and transferred to a heat sink.

Data PointDefinitionValuesMeaningsSystem Alert Conditions
Primary Chilled Water Supply TemperatureIndicates the temperature of the primary water supply.Temperature + UOM preferenceSetpoint +10% for 300 seconds or Setpoint +/- 20% for 180 seconds (setpoint varies site to site (6-12 deg C) due to site cooling design)VALUE
Chilled Water Storage Level OKIndicates the water level in the water storage tank.ALARMALARM: Asset has a system alertALARM

Leak Detection

Devices in the data center that detect leaks from water, caustic chemicals, or other corrosive fluids (such as moisture from weather-related fluid intrusion, faulty piping, and structural failures of roofs and windows).

Data PointDefinitionValuesMeaningsSystem Alert Conditions
Leak Detected Somewhere in IBXIndicates that moisture level has exceeded established parameters.NORMALNORMAL: No system alert presentALARM
ALARMALARM: Asset has a system alert
