Sustainability Tool FAQ

What is this tool?

The Sustainability Tool in Equinix Customer Portal (ECP) enables customers to generate sustainability data reports for their organization and view the data in a dashboard format. Users can access Green Power Reports (GPR) and a dashboard view of the data contained in these reports.

For detailed guidance on navigating this tool, see the Sustainability product guide.

What data points are included?

Green Power Reports include annual sustainability metrics relevant to your deployments with Equinix.

GPRs include:

  • IT Electricity Usage – The total electricity consumed by your IT equipment.

  • Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) Usage – The portion of site M&E overhead attributed to your deployment.

  • Renewable Energy Coverage – The percentage of your electricity usage that is covered by renewables purchasing.

  • Renewable Energy Type – Contract details for renewables coverage at each IBX.

  • Location-Based Emissions – The emissions associated with your deployment, calculated based on the geographic location of each facility.

  • Market-Based Emissions – The emissions associated with your deployment, calculated based on the contractually purchased energy and renewable energy of each facility.

The dashboard view includes the above data points, plus a monthly breakdown of electricity consumption and emissions. For details on the methodology of calculated metrics, please view our methodology document.

What is the scope of the data I can view?

Customer ECP accounts are structured by organization, with designated company administrators governing permissions within their organization. Organizations are a groupings of billing accounts and are defined by each customer. Thus, one customer may have many organizations within ECP.

How can I access more of my company's data?

Organizational permissions can be granted by your company administrator. See the ECP product documentation for details on this process.

I’m an administrator for my organization. How can I grant access to other users?

The process for adding new users and granting permissions is outlined in the Administrator Responsibilities section of the ECP product documentation.

Can Equinix provide global reports?

Global reports based on your billing account structure are still available upon request through your account team.

Can I export the data?

Reports can be downloaded as a PDF or Excel file.

What is the purpose of the two separate views?

The GPR, which has been available upon request since 2019, provides a static view of customer data with verified sustainability metrics in PDF and Excel format. The dashboard provides this data in an interactive format and includes a monthly breakdown of metrics.

Can I publish these reports?

Companies may extract the information contained within these reports for their sustainability and environmental reporting, but the reports themselves are confidential and should not be made publicly available.

How often can I access new data?

Based on sustainability reporting best practices, Equinix obtains ISO 14064-3: 2019 Limited Assurance of our annual energy consumption, renewable energy consumption, and scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions metrics. This verification process occurs in Q1 annually for the previous calendar year, and metrics become available in March.
