Licensing
Bring Your Own License (BYOL) products require a valid license. You are responsible for purchasing and managing your own licenses from Fortinet. To purchase a software license, contact your Fortinet sales representative or partners.

Fortinet support is available for BYOL licenses. Contact your Fortinet sales representative or partner to purchase a license and support contract.

Creating a Fortinet FortiGate Firewall Device
Obtain a license from the vendor device reseller for a FortiGate Firewall device. Bring Your Own License (BYOL) is the only available option for this virtual device. Network Edge supports both file-based perpetual license as well as FortiFlex token-based license.
FortiFlex license only supports license tokens for software versions 7.x.x.
During the device creation process:
- Select I will enter license tokens if you are using a token-based FortiFlex license. In the field, enter your license token key.
- Select I will upload license files if you are using a file-based license. Click Choose a file to upload your license file.
Uploading the BYOL license token or files for Fortinet FortiGate is optional. You can provision your device without license, and register the BYOL license after the device is provisioned.

Creating Fortinet FortiGate SD-WAN (Self-Configured) Devices
During the device creation process:
- Select I will enter license tokens if you are using a token-based FortiFlex license. In the field, enter your license token key.
- Select I will upload license files if you are using a file-based license. Click Choose a file to upload your license file.
Uploading the BYOL license token or files for Fortinet FortiGate is optional. You can provision your device without license, and register the BYOL license after the device is provisioned.
If you are creating a cluster, you will be asked to provide:
- Cluster Name – Enter a name for the cluster.
- Device Name – Enter a name for the device.
- Primary Device SD-WAN Controller 1 – Enter the IP address.
- Primary Device Admin Password – Enter a password for the primary device.
- Primary Host Name – Enter the host name for the primary device.
- Secondary Device Admin Password – Enter a password for the secondary device.
- Secondary Device Host Name – Enter the host name for the secondary device.
When connecting clustered devices using Device Linking, the HA Group IDs must be unique on each cluster.
