EVP-LAN Support for Network Edge
Network Edge supports EVP-LAN connections to allow multipoint-to-multipoint networking. EVP-LAN enables you to interconnect your data center assets across many locations through a common network instead of requiring direct connections between individual locations. This topic describes how to create a private multipoint-to-multipoint network and connect to that network from your Network Edge devices.
The primary use case for connecting a Virtual Device into an EVP-LAN network is connecting all customer assets that are part of that network (including Virtual Devices) over a single multipoint-to-multipoint network instead of connecting the assets through individual point-to-point connections.
- Multiple Network Edge virtual devices per a single metro are allowed in a particular EVP-LAN Network.
- All device types are supported.
- All deployment types (Single, Redundant and Cluster) are supported.
Sample scenarios for connecting a Virtual Device into an EVP-LAN network include:
- Connect Network Edge devices to multiple assets in the same or different IBX cages
- Extend NSP connection (BYOC) in a given metro to another Network Edge device in a different metro.
The high-level workflow for integrating an EVP-LAN network with Network Edge is:
- Create an EVP-LAN network.
- Connect your device to your EVP-LAN network.
- Check your Connectivity.
Creating EVP-LAN Network
For instructions on creating your EVP-LAN network, see the Create a Network from the Fabric documentation.
Connecting Your Device to the EVP-LAN Network
The maximum aggregated bandwidth allowed for each Metro on a network is 10 Gbps
To connect your device to your EVP-LAN network:
- Sign in to the Equinix Customer Portal and navigate to Network Edge.
- Click Create Connection.
- On the My Own Assets card, click Connect to My Own Assets.
- On the Connect to a Network card, click Create Connection.
- In the Destination section, click EVP-LAN, and select the EVP-LAN network you’re connecting to.
- In the Origin section, click Virtual Device.
- Select a location.
- Select a Virtual Device type: Virtual Devices, Redundant Devices, or Clusters.
- Select a connection type.
- Select one or more devices in the location you selected.
- Click Next.
- Enter a name for your connection.
- (Optional) Enter the Purchase Order Number.
- Select a Connection Speed.
- Click Next.
- Review your order and click Submit Order.
Check Connectivity
The order confirmation window contains the connection ID, the connection preview, and a link to the Connections Inventory where you can view your connection details and check the status. Go to the Network Inventory to view your network.
