Ordering Metro Connect

Equinix Metro Connect services offer point-to-point connectivity between Equinix data center locations within a metropolitan area and, in a few cases, between metropolitan areas in the same country. Download and review the Metro Connect data sheet.

Metro Connect is available in two offerings: Fabric Metro Connect and Optical Metro Connect.

Ordering From the Customer Portal

To place an order for Metro Connect, first sign in to Customer Portal.

From the Customer Portal, either:

  • Use the Colocation Dashboard. From the Orders and Tickets drop-down list, choose Network Ports.

    In the Interconnection Catalog, select either Fabric Metro Connect or Optical Metro Connect.

  • Or use the left navigation to place an order. From the left navigation, select either Fabric Metro Connect or Optical Metro Connect.

  • Or use the Interconnection Dashboard page to order Optical Metro Connect.

    Fabric Metro Connect ordering isn't available from the Interconnection Dashboard. To order Fabric Metro Connect, use the left navigation, or place the order through the Customer Portal.

Guided Ordering Flow

Follow the steps to configure Fabric Metro Connect or Optical Metro Connect.

New Customer Portal Experience

Equinix is upgrading its systems and updating the user experience in the Customer Portal. If your account has been onboarded to the new experience, ordering Metro Connect in the Customer Portal is temporarily unavailable. The portal displays a message stating that it cannot process your order and instructing you to contact your sales representative or email us for assistance placing a Metro Connect order.

Ordering Fabric Metro Connect

  1. In Locations and Offering Details, select the following:

    • Metro area

    • A-side IBX data center

    • Z-side destination details:

      • To another Equinix customer in the IBX data center
      • To "Myself in the IBX data center"
      • To a Building Meet Me Room (BMMR)
      Letter of Authorization (LOA)

      Before you connect to another Equinix customer on the Z-side of your Metro Connect connection, the other customer must approve a Letter of Authorization (LOA). An LOA is also required when you connect to a partner or another user through Building Meet-Me Room (BMMR).

  2. Continue by selecting the following:

    • Billing account
    • Protection level: Dual-Diverse, Protected, or Unprotected
    • Port speed

    Available Optical Metro Connect bandwidths appear as an informational link. Select the link to navigate to the Optical Metro Connect ordering page.

  3. In Connection Details, configure the patch panels, Letter of Authorization (LOA) information, and circuit identifiers required for service provisioning.

  4. To download a PDF for review, select Print Order Summary.

  5. In Purchase Order and Contact Details, enter the purchase order (PO) and contact information.

  6. In the Review section, confirm the service details and pricing. Select I agree to accept the Pricing Information, and to view the Order Terms.

  7. Select Submit Order.

Ordering Optical Metro Connect

  1. In Locations and Offering Details, select the following:

    • Metro area

    • A-side IBX data center

    • Z-side destination details:

      • To another Equinix customer in the IBX data center
      • To "Myself in the IBX data center"
      • To a Building Meet Me Room (BMMR)
      Letter of Authorization (LOA)

      Before you connect to another Equinix customer on the Z-side of your Metro Connect connection, the other customer must approve a Letter of Authorization (LOA). An LOA is also required when you connect to a partner or another user through Building Meet-Me Room (BMMR).

  2. Continue by selecting the following:

    • Billing account
    • Protection level: Dual-Diverse, Protected, or Unprotected
    • Port speed (1 Gbps is no longer available as an Optical Metro Connect ordering option)

  3. In Connection Details, configure the patch panels, Letter of Authorization (LOA) information, and circuit identifiers required for service provisioning.
