With our Managed Storage and Backup Solutions, you can manage your information with greater efficiency and flexibility, without the need to invest in equipment. Purchasing a data storage solution in a secure environment provides you control over how your structure expands while minimizing financial risk.

We offer protection and support for all your data needs through the following:

• Managed Storage – Store and protect your data in a secure, robust environment with guaranteed performance and no hardware investment required. This is available in three different modalities:

  1. File Storage – Based on TCP/IP and compatible with NFS and SMB protocols.
  2. Block Storage – Distributed through a fully redundant network topology via Fiber Channel or iSCSI.
  3. Object Storage – Ideal for storing and managing large volumes of unstructured data.

• Intelligent Data – This is a smarter storage solution that offers data auto-tiering and real-time behavior visibility to help deliver the performance your business needs. With this, there is no need to make upfront decisions about protocols, data performance, or storage space distribution. Instead, configure your preferences on-demand through a self-service portal.

• Managed Backup – This service solution ensures reliable backup for the files on your storage, database (Oracle and SQL Server), and virtual machines by installing agents on physical hosts. It is highly customizable and addresses multiple protection requirements according to the critical nature of data.

Managed Storage

Managed Storage product offers customers a storage solution that is logical, secure, and readily available. It follows an "as a service" model, allowing customers to enjoy storage services with ease and convenience.

The Managed Storage service utilizes a monthly recurring charge (MRC) for net capacity utilization and performance* and a non-recurring charge (NRC) for the initial installation.

The products offer several benefits, including:

The different implementation modalities are described below.

Block Storage

Equinix Brazil’s block storage service provides exclusive access to distributed and configured block storage with different performance tiers. The storage is hosted in their datacenter and is specifically designed for customer use.

The system automatically distributes logical volumes across different disk layers based on the usage and access patterns of the client's systems and equipment.

The Block modality is contracted for the level of performance with the delivery of the product defined in the guarantee of IOPS (Input/Output Operations Per Second), which establishes the processing performance of requests made to the volume of data by a single server.

The modality offers three levels of performance:

• Tier 1: High performance level, with a guaranteed 4.6 IOPS per contracted Gigabyte
• Tier 2: Medium performance level, with a guaranteed 1.2 IOPS per contracted Gigabyte
• Tier 3: Low performance level, with a guaranteed 0.1 IOPS per contracted Gigabyte

Customers have an option to choose the Block Inter IBX storage, providing them with the highest level of data availability and redundancy across Equinix Brazil's IBXs.

The guaranteed redundancy is based on the following principles:

• During the product's contract period, customers can choose their primary (SP2) and secondary (SP3) sites (the Sao Paulo IBX Data Centers).
• Data replication between these sites happens asynchronously. This means that any changes made on the primary node are initially stored in the replicator’s storage. Once these updates are complete, they are then asynchronously transferred to the secondary storage through several replication lanes. This process leads to achieving various replication point objectives (RPOs), ensuring data consistency and reliability.

File Storage

Files, folders, and directories are stored based on File storage. File storage is offered based on an SMB or NFS file share. In contrast to Block storage, the file system of File storage is provided by Equinix.

Equinix Brazil's File storage service provides exclusive file storage for customers hosted at their data center.

By utilizing low-performance disks, customers can use volumes as mapped network drives or directly connect them as logical disks for client-server applications.

You can access storage volumes using the following protocols:

• SMB (Server Message Block) 2.0 or higher: This protocol is suitable for Windows and Linux servers, allowing multiple servers to access the storage. The featured volumes support NTFS and EXT3 or higher file systems.
• NFS (Network File System) v3 or higher: Designed for Linux and Windows servers, this protocol enables multiple servers to access the storage. The featured volumes also support NTFS and EXT3 or higher file systems.

Object Storage

Object storage is a method that is particularly suitable for storing large quantities of unstructured data.

The Object storage modality provides unstructured data storage using REST objects. The infrastructure ensures highly scalable storage with 99.999999999% durability of the stored data.

In the Object storage modality, there are two performance levels available: Tier 1 or Tier 2. Access to the storage can be contracted through HTTP or HTTPS protocols.

It's important to note that sales contracts for capacities up to 100 TB are limited, but there is an alternative option to contract the Service Infrastructure product Port.

This allows unlimited access through URLs and provides REST API support for all storage classes, including operations such as PUT, COPY, POST, GET, LIST, and DELETE.

Intelligent Data

Fast data access and secure storage are crucial for businesses. Equinix's Intelligent Data solution offers innovative data management and on-demand storage capacity to help customers adapt efficiently to the growing data challenge.

The Intelligent Data is a centralized storage solution that manages customer data throughout its life cycle, offering guaranteed tierization levels at a single cost per terabyte (TB). It includes protection features like Replication and Snapshot, automatic storage distribution, and the option to add archive functionality for seldom accessed volumes.

The Intelligent Data offers a range of benefits and features, including:

• Support for multiple protocols such as NFS, SMB, iSCSI, and Object
• A fixed cost per TB purchased, ensuring predictable pricing
• Easy management of volumes and environments through the Managed Services Portal
• An Environment/Projects Dashboard organized by IBX for clear monitoring
• The ability to organize volumes/environments by projects for better organization
• Onboard snapshot and replication at no additional cost for data protection
• Predictive growth analytics to help plan for future storage needs

Protocols

The solution offers different protocols for volumes:

• File (NFS and SMB): Acts as filesystem shares, shared folders among users/systems.
• Block: Disks installed directly in the OS, similar to new hard drives/pen drives.
• Object: File repositories accessed via URLs, no distinction between files, images, and videos, widely used on websites and e-commerce platforms.

Archive functionality supports both Block and File volumes.

Capacity

The Intelligent Data service is available with a minimum monthly commitment, agreed between Equinix and the customer. The agreed commitment depends on the total volume required for the customer's environment. Regardless of the settings made in the Managed Services Portal, the product provides a fixed monthly cost per TB of storage, ensuring the required performance for each data volume.

Capacity

The Managed Backup service offers the required backup capacity for the entire customer environment.

The limits for the amount of data you can back up on the target machine:

• When using the Shared Service Port product with a capacity of 10 Gbps, the maximum data you can back up per host is 10 TB.
• If you're using the Shared Service Port product, the maximum data backup per host is 5 TB, regardless of the product's capacity.

If the customer exceeds the total contracted backup capacity, the system generates a non-recurring charge (NRC) for the extra Gigabytes (GB) used. All details about the exceeded backup capacity are available on the invoice or through the backup management portal.

Backup Protection

The Backup Protection functionality allows a second layer of protection for the customer's data, replicating all data to a secondary IBX defined in the contract. Backup Protection aims to reduce the risk of unavailability of backed up data and meet compliance requirements and demands.

Backup Protection replicates your data using Equinix Metro Connect across multiple routes.
