Snapshots
The Snapshot feature allows you to create an instant copy of a system at a certain point in time. This enables you to recover that specific state of the virtual machine prior to changes, upgrades or other events.
Create a Snapshot
-
Select the virtual machine or vApp, and open its properties.
-
Open the menu ALL ACTIONS -> Snapshot -> Create Snapshot.
-
In the Create Snapshot window, select the options and read the message regarding the removal of any other existing snapshot (only one Snapshot is supported at a time, by default).
Create Snapshot Snapshot the memory of the virtual machine The inclusion of RAM memory status in the snapshot is optional, and if selected it will be necessary to make the equivalent size in use in the VM available for disk storage via the storage quota. Quiesce the guest file system (Requires installed VMware Tools) It allows the file system to be adjusted to an ideal state for backups, and can include operations such as cleaning buffers, memory cache and others. A prerequisite is the installation of VMware Tools on the guest operating system. -
Select the desired options, and click CREATE.
Note: The Equinix Hybrid Cloud Portal only takes one snapshot per VM, and snapshots cannot be taken of virtual machines with connected data volumes (this is a limitation of the tool).
Reverse or Delete a Snapshot
-
Select the desired virtual machine and open its properties.
-
Open the menu ALL ACTIONS -> Snapshot and its submenu to choose the desired option.
