About Internet Access

Equinix Internet Access provides blended internet access using multiple tier-1 internet service providers (ISPs) and Equinix Internet Exchanges (IX) to deliver high availability, reliability, and speed. Equinix Internet Access also supports various protocols, including Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP), with static and direct routing over 1G, 10G, and 100G single- or dual-port connections.

Features

Some highlights of Equinix Internet Access are:

  • Flexible product configurations available for port speeds, static routing, or dynamic routing
  • Built-in redundancy and consistent low latency services from direct fast-path connections to major content destinations like Dropbox, Office 365, and Zoom
  • Scalable bandwidth and usage-based billing
  • Guaranteed up-time with dual-port configurations that carry a 99.99% availability SLA, and single-port configurations that carry a 99.9% availability SLA
  • Rich SaaS ecosystem available with highly localized access
  • Simplified management with one invoice, real-time bandwidth reporting, and support available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
  • Available as a resource in Solution Builder, where users can add and configure Internet Access using topology diagrams that are downloadable with price estimates

Use Cases

Equinix Internet Access is commonly used for these purposes:

  • Main internet access – Highly scalable and resilient internet connection with dual port access and fixed fee billing. Internet Access provides the main source of internet access for IP transport. Example configuration details:

    • Dual-port
    • 1G port
    • IPv4 and IPv6 Addresses
    • VRRP Static, Provider-assigned IP Space (PA) or Provider-independent IP Space (PI)
    • 500 Mbps commitment
    • Fixed billing

These default selections can be modified to suit your precise needs.

  • Management access – Minimum internet bandwidth established to gain out-of-band management access to your assets in Equinix IBXes. Internet Access provides independent, diverse back-door support for managing servers and network devices. No additional IP addresses are required, and no modifications to the configuration are permitted.

    • Single-port
    • 1G port
    • IPv4 and IPv6 Addresses
    • Direct Routing with Provider-assigned IP Space (PA)
    • Bandwidth commitment – 15 Mbps
    • Fixed billing

Connecting to Internet Access

Choose how you connect to Internet Access from the following options:

  • A Dedicated Port that is fully reserved for Internet Access service that allows bandwidth up to 100 Gbps over 1G, 10G, or 100G ports.

  • A Network Edge virtual device with bandwidth up to 10Gbps, configured as:

    • An internet on firewall virtual device that gives you possibility to monitor and filter incoming and outgoing network traffic based on your organization's established security policies.

    • A virtual router that provides you routing, switching, security, VPN, and other functions through a virtualization platform and offer network communication services for users.

    • A load balancer that is distributing network or application traffic across a number of servers this increases capacity (concurrent users) and reliability of applications.

  • A Fabric port that can be shared with several different Equinix services on the same port with bandwidth up to 50 Gbps.
