Pricing and Billing Overview
This topic describes key concepts about Equinix Fabric pricing and billing to make it easier to understand what you are charged on your monthly invoice.
Priced Elements
Your monthly invoice may include charges for:
- Ports – Physical interfaces connecting your infrastructure to Equinix Fabric.
- Connections – Virtual links within a metro (local) or between metros (remote, ELAN regional, and ELAN global).
- Fabric Cloud Routers (FCRs) - A virtual routing service connecting clouds,
colocation, and other services.
Port Pricing
Port charges are monthly and include:
- Physical port
- Physical connection to your cage (same or different IBX in the metro)
- No upfront fees
Pricing Factors
-
Port Size - 1 Gbps, 10 Gbps, or 100 Gbps.
-
Port Type
- Standard - Connects to your cage.
- Remote - Connects to a third-party cage.
- Extended - Connects to a BMMR (higher price).
-
Port Packages
- Standard - Port only; virtual connections billed separately.
- Unlimited - Includes port and an unlimited number of point-to-point local connections originated from that port. Available for standard and remote ports.
- Unlimited Plus - Includes port and unlimited number of point-to-point local and remote connections originated from that port (available in Europe, Canada, and the US). Available for standard ports only. Contact your Equinix sales representative to order this port type.
You are responsible for managing oversubscription and creating any number of connections up to the allowed amount of 4095 VLANs.
Virtual Connections (VC) Pricing
Point-to-Point VCs
Point-to-point VCs are direct links between two locations.
Pricing Factors
-
Locations - Local (same metro) or Remote (different metros)
-
Bandwidth Tiers - From 10 Mbps to 50 Gbps.
-
Port Packages - Local VCs are free with Unlimited or Unlimited Plus ports. Remote VCs are free with Unlimited Plus ports (within eligible regions).
You will pay a flat monthly fee for bandwidth capacity provisioned regardless of the bandwidth amount consumed during the month.
Multipoint-to-Multipoint VCs (E-LAN)
Connect multiple locations through a shared network.
Pricing Factors
-
Network Type
- Local (same metro)
- Regional (same region)
- Global (accross regions)
-
Bandwidth - Same tiers as Point-to-Point, except 25–50 Gbps is not available for Global networks.
Start by creating a private network at no charge, then add connections to that network from each of your metros or endpoints.
Fabric Cloud Router Pricing
-
Monthly charges that vary by package: Lab, Basic, Standard, or Advanced.
-
FCRs are connected via IPWAN VCs (Multipoint-to-Multipoint) priced as described in the section above.
-
You can connect your FCR to a Network Edge Virtual Device for free up to 1Gbps
IP Blocks
- Charged monthly
Contracted Terms
Contracted Terms commitments provide you with discounted pricing and predictable spending for the duration of the term.
