Metal Shutdown FAQ

This document answers common questions about the shutdown of Equinix Metal on June 30, 2026.

What will happen to my Equinix Metal servers and data?

All customer infrastructure and associated data will become inaccessible once Metal is shutdown.

What time will Equinix Metal be shutdown?

Equinix Metal will officially reach its end-of-life on June 30, 2026 at 11:59 PM PST.

What will happen to my API keys and SSH keys?

All customer API keys and SSH keys will be permanently deleted.

Will I still be able to log into the Equinix Metal Console?

Console access will remain available until December 31, 2026 for users assigned to the Owner role within your organization.

Please note that all Owners will be reassigned to the Billing role after June 30, 2026, and will have limited access to complete billing-related administrative tasks, such as downloading invoices and viewing historical billing information.

What actions can be taken in the Console after the Metal end-of-life?

Owners within an organization will be reassigned to the Billing role after June 30, 2026 and will have access to the Metal Console until December 31, 2026.

These users will be able to:

  • Download invoices and billing history
  • View historical account information

Users will not have access to the following after June 30, 2026:

  • Provision infrastructure
  • Manage resources
  • Use APIs or automation

What will happen to Metal Console users in my organization?

Collaborators and Limited Collaborators will be removed from organizations.

Organization Owners will be converted to billing-only access and will retain access to the Console until December 31, 2026.

Will I continue to be billed after the Metal end-of-life date?

No. The last Metal invoices will be issued on July 2, 2026 for services consumed in June. Any outstanding invoices issued before the shutdown remain payable.

How do I get a copy of an invoice?

Invoices can be downloaded from the Metal Console until December 31, 2026. After that date, contact your Equinix billing representative or account team.

I have a billing question. Who do I contact?

For billing inquiries, contact your account team or Global-MetalBilling@equinix.com.

What will happen to Metal Support?

The support@equinixmetal.com and cs@equinix.com emails will be retired on September 30, 2026. If you require support after this date, please contact your Equinix account team.

What will happen to networking resources like IPs and VLANs?

All Metal networking resources will be released or deleted. This includes IP address allocations, VLANs, VRFs, and Metal-specific network configurations.

Do I need to take action on Fabric interconnections?

Yes. If you have Fabric interconnections associated with Metal, ensure they have been deleted or disconnected. Remaining Fabric resources may continue to incur charges if not removed.
