VNF Image Versions

This page lists the VNF types and versions that have been verified and tested by Equinix for Network Edge. The tables show which versions are available for new device deployments, the latest deployable versions introduced with their release numbers, and any versions scheduled for retirement.

The listed versions are intended for onboarding and device provisioning. Once you have ordered your device and provisioning is complete, you are free to upgrade or downgrade to any version of the VNF, as long as it is in compliance with your vendor guidance and license.

If you do change versions, it is very important to note the following:

  • Snapshot and Restore - You cannot restore a snapshot of a previous version to a device that has been upgraded or downgraded to a different version. For example, if you perform a snapshot of your device with VNF version X.0, and upgrade your device to VNF version Y.1, then you can no longer restore that snapshot to your device. Snapshot versions must match the current version running on the device in order to be restored. When you upgrade or downgrade a device, take a new snapshot for recovery purposes.

  • RMAs - If you have changed the version of a VNF on your device and you initiate an RMA, the RMA workflow restores the device to the last known Equinix-verified version running on that device. For example, if you provisioned your device on VNF version X.0 and have upgraded it to version Y.1 and version Y.1 is not an Equinix-verified version listed on this page, then the RMA process restores the device to version X.0.

Retirement of a version is posted in this document 60 days prior. Removal of the version is upon a release date. (Release number is noted in the retirement date column.) In case of emergency (PSIRT or critical defect), Equinix reserves the right to remove the version from the portal for deployment. After device provisioning, it is your responsibility to upgrade or downgrade VNF versions to mitigate security or other risks.

* Aviatrix version 6.9 is limited with up to 3 interfaces and requires an additional supporting device for Layer 3 routing functionality. This means that if you select version 6.9, you need to have an additional support device (such as a router), connected through a DLG, to connect to the CSP. This requirement is removed when the 7.1 version is used. Version 7.1 release supports multiple virtual connections with up to 10 interfaces, BGP support on the WAN interface to support CSP private circuits connectivity. This version requires the 7.1 controller.
