Mobility Exchange Service

Mobility Exchange Peering at Equinix is a fully managed Ethernet switching infrastructure that facilitates the exchange of mobile internet traffic. The Global Peering Exchange (GPE) switching platform has a redundant architecture designed for improved resiliency and greater port density.

Mobility Exchange provides connectivity between Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) colocated within the Equinix Singapore or Washington, D.C. IBX who want to exchange mobile internet traffic with their peer of choice. MNOs can simply connect their border routers or switches to the GPE access port.

Mobility Exchange Locations

  • Singapore

  • Washington, D.C.

  • Amsterdam (via AMS-IX)

Service Transparency

Equinix provides MNOs with portal access to view service statistics on a near real-time basis:

  • Service level agreements (SLA) – Jitter, packet loss, service availability, and packet delay

  • Traffic utilization graphs

Technical Specifications

  • Private bilateral peering configuration

  • Single or redundant GPE port interconnect options

  • Supports Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet

  • Supports port-based and tag-based (802.1Q) private VLAN

Mobility Exchange Media and Ports

The following optical interfaces are supported:

  • 10G LR optics on single-mode fiber (SMF)

  • 1G LX on SMF

GPE Service Level and Redundant Access Architecture

Redundant peering infrastructure provides MNOs with fully redundant LAN infrastructure for improved service delivery.

Private Bilateral Peering

MNOs have the freedom to negotiate private peering arrangements without any restrictions.

Service Level Agreements (SLAs)

Equinix offers MNOs stringent SLAs with fault tolerant management and escalation procedures.

VLAN Trunking Encapsulation

Trunking encapsulation can consolidate multiple physical links onto fewer VLAN trunk ports, thus increasing network efficiency.

GPE Service Level Guarantees

  • Service Availability for single and redundant connectivity

  • Packet loss

  • Packet delay

  • Inter-packet Delay Variation (Jitter)
