Port Architectures for Service Providers
Non-Redundant Configuration
- 1GE
- 10GE
- 100GE (in most markets)
As shown in this diagram, both the service provider and the customer are available in an Equinix IBX data center, either physically (through a third party network) or virtually (using a virtual network function (VNF) service).
Non-Redundant Link Aggregation Groups (LAG) Configuration
This configuration offers you a standard or unlimited (non-remote) dual Equinix Fabric port. With 99.9% Equinix Fabric availability SLA, your port options are:
- 1GE
- 10GE
- 100GE (in most markets)
This allows LAG with one single physical link or member with an active Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) configuration (IEEE 802.3ad), forming LAG up to 8x ports (8x 1GE or 8x 10GE).
As shown in this diagram, both the service provider and the customer are available in an Equinix IBX data center, either physically (through a third party network) or virtually (using a virtual network function (VNF) service).
MultiChassis - LAG Configuration
Equinix Fabric does not support MultiChassis LAG.
Redundant Configuration
This configuration offers you a standard or unlimited (non-remote) Equinix Fabric port. With 99.999% Equinix Fabric availability SLA, your port options are:
- 1GE
- 10GE
- 100GE (in some markets)
This option supports dual diverse physical Equinix Fabric ports to dual diverse Equinix Fabric Chassis (Primary and Secondary). It connects dual diverse Equinix Fabric virtual circuits to the service providers.
Note: As per the requirement, optional LAG is provided to the customer.
Redundant LAG Configuration
This configuration offers you a standard or unlimited (non-remote) Equinix Fabric port. With 99.999% Equinix Fabric availability SLA, your port options are:
- 1GE
- 10GE
- 100GE (in some markets)
This allows LAG with one single physical link or member with an active Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) configuration (IEEE 802.3ad), forming LAG up to 8x ports.
This configuration option supports dual diverse physical Equinix Fabric ports to dual diverse Equinix Fabric Chassis (Primary and Secondary). In addition, this option connects dual diverse Equinix Fabric virtual circuits to the service providers.
Geo Diverse (Dual Metro) Single VC Configuration
This configuration is provided to you with presence at the Dual Geo Diverse Equinix Metros. You are offered a standard or unlimited (non-remote) Equinix Fabric port. With 99.9% Equinix Fabric availability SLA, your port options are:
- 1GE
- 10GE
- 100GE (in some markets)
Geo Diverse (Dual Metro) Dual VC Configuration
This configuration is provided to you with presence at Dual Geo Diverse Equinix Metros. You are offered a standard or unlimited (non-remote) Equinix Fabric port. With 99.999% Equinix Fabric availability SLA, your port options are:
- 1GE
- 10GE
- 100GE (in some markets)
Additionally, this option supports dual diverse physical Equinix Fabric ports to dual diverse Equinix Fabric Chassis (Primary and Secondary) and connects dual diverse Equinix Fabric virtual circuits to the service providers.
Virtual Presence Configuration
With this configuration, an SP with deployment in the public cloud can have a virtual presence in Equinix by using the Network Edge virtual network function (VNF) service. With 99.999% Equinix Fabric availability SLA for a single deployment, no physical Equinix Fabric ports are needed.
Redundancy options are available, similar to the redundant and the geo diverse (dual metro) VC configurations.
Redundant Configuration – L3 Architecture
SPs typically use this L3 architecture, which is based on Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). Other routing protocols can be used at the discretion of the SP.
