Observability
Observability allows you to monitor and understand the performance and health of your systems by analyzing outputs like logs, metrics, and traces. By leveraging observability in managing your services and infrastructure, you gain valuable insights into how your digital products are performing. This helps you track and optimize service quality, ensure compliance, and boost overall operational efficiency.
Streaming Network Data
Equinix offers streaming event and metric data that you can ingest into a third-party data collector for analysis.
This architecture diagram demonstrates how the components work with each other.
Start by creating a new stream, which can hold and organize data from several types of assets.
Once the stream is created, attach assets like connections, cloud routers, projects, metros, etc. to the stream. This step ensures that event messages related to these assets are captured in the stream.
With the assets attached, the stream starts receiving metrics and event messages associated with the attached assets. Create a Subscription to connect the stream to a supported sink, like Splunk, Datadog, etc.
Currently, Equinix offers streaming data for:
- Fabric Ports
- Fabric Connections
- Fabric Cloud Router
- Metros
- Projects - includes lifecycle events for Fabric Ports, Fabric Connections, Fabric Cloud Routers, Network Edge, Equinix Precision Time, and Equinix Internet Access.
- Organizations
Smart View
Currently, Colocation Observability is provided by Smart View, providing near real-time operational data for your IBX data center footprint.
Smart View gathers operational data from a variety of entities, such as building management systems (BMS) and power monitoring components. The gathered information (including power draw, environmental, mechanical, and electrical data) provides insight into the operating conditions relevant to your IBX colocation footprint.
Smart View data is available in the Smart View portal or retrieve it using the Smart View APIs. For more information, see the Smart View documentation.
Reports
Equinix offers a variety of reports offering operational insights into your colocation deployments, orders, users, and power consumption.
For more information, see the Report Center documentation.
