Upgrade a Fabric Cloud Router Package

Upgrade the package for your Fabric Cloud Router from a Lab package to a paid package, to avoid recreating your test setup.

Prerequisites

  • A provisioned Lab package for Fabric Cloud Router

Upgrade from a Lab Package to a Higher Tier Package

  1. Sign into the Equinix Customer Portal and navigate to Fabric.

  2. From the Cloud Routers menu, select Fabric Cloud Router Inventory.

  3. From the inventory list of connections, locate the Fabric Cloud Router Name. You can use the filter options to narrow your search using specific criteria.

  4. Click the Cloud Router that you want to upgrade. Details for the Cloud Router connection are displayed.

  5. In the Cloud Router Details window, next to the Package attribute, the Upgrade option is available for Lab packages. Click Upgrade.

Note: Currently, the Upgrade option is available only for the Cloud Router Lab package.

The Upgrade form is displayed on the right side of the screen.

  6. Select the higher tier package that you would like to upgrade the Lab package Cloud Router to. The higher tier packages have a higher route quota and supported bandwidth for connections.

  7. Review the summary of the cost difference for the upgraded Fabric Cloud Router package.

Note: If the Cloud Router has associated connections, these connections are added to the invoice as part of the standard Fabric prices for higher cost packages connections.

  8. In the Pricing and Tier Information section, select the checkboxes to authorize this change and to acknowledge that downgrading to a Lab package is not possible.

  9. Click Confirm.

Warning: Upgrading the Cloud Router is a traffic-impacting operation. The network service is updated, and BGP sessions to peers are reset during the updates to route quotas for the new service. The upgrade of the Cloud Router and the reset of the BGP sessions could take a few minutes, depending on the number of connections that the Cloud Router has.

Once the upgrade is triggered, updating the Cloud Router and its associated connections is not possible.

  • The Cloud Router status is locked and an informational box is displayed on the Cloud Router Details page, confirming that your request is submitted.

  • When the upgrade is complete, the Fabric Cloud Router status is set to Provisioned. The Details page displays an informational message.

Due to the way that Fabric handles billing updates, any billing-impact updates for the Cloud Router and its associated connections are allowed only after 24 hours. For example, a bandwidth upgrade on a connection would be delayed for 24 hours.

  • After a successful upgrade, an email notification is sent to the addresses associated with the Cloud Router.

  • If an upgrade fails, the Details page displays information about this failure to upgrade and the Cloud Router status remains locked. For assistance, create a Support ticket on the Fabric portal.
