Connect to an IP-WAN Network

The Internet Protocol Wide Area Network (IP-WAN) connectivity option allows you to create a private network and connect to that network from your Fabric Cloud Routers. Set up your IP-WAN network by following the instructions in Create an IP-WAN Network. Then, connect to it by using this feature on the Equinix Fabric portal.

Note: A Cloud Router that is connected only to an IP-WAN can't learn any routes from remote Cloud Routers. A provisioned local connection is required for a Cloud Router to display routes that are received through the IP-WAN.

Create a Connection to an IP-WAN Network

  1. Sign into the Equinix Customer Portal and navigate to Fabric.

  2. If your Fabric account has been transitioned to Equinix Identity and Access Management (IAM) platform, use the Context Switcher drop-down list to access your project and its assets.

For more information, see Identity and Access Management.

  3. From the Connections menu, select Create Connection.

  4. In the My Own Assets card, click Connect to My Own Assets.

  5. On the Connect to a Network card, click Create Connection.

The Select Locations form is displayed.

Select Locations

  1. In the Origin section, click the Fabric Cloud Router card.

  2. Select the region tab, the metro location, and the Fabric Cloud Router card for your new connection.

  3. In the Destination section, click IP-WAN.

Note: You can only connect a Cloud Router to other endpoints within the same metro location.

  4. Select the region tab and IP-WAN network. Click Next.

The Connection Details form is displayed.

Connection Details

  1. Enter connection details in these fields:

    • Connection Information – A name for the new connection.

    • Purchase Order Number – A number to be included in the confirmation email.

  2. Select a Connection Speed. The Pricing Overview section shows the monthly charge for the new connection.

  3. Click Next in the lower right corner. The Review page is displayed.

Review

  1. Verify the details in the Connection Summary and Pricing Overview sections.

  2. In the Notifications section, you can add one or more additional email addresses. Click Add Another Email and enter an address. Repeat this step to add more addresses, as needed.

  3. Click Submit Order.

A confirmation page displays the Unique ID for the connection and a preview of the connection. To view details and the status of your connection, click Go to My Inventory.

Repeat this process for each Fabric Cloud Router that you want to connect to your network.

Once you’ve created connections from multiple Fabric Cloud Routers in a Regional or Global context, route advertisement is automatically handled between the various Cloud Routers that are connected to the IP-WAN. For more information about viewing the Active Routes for a particular Fabric Cloud Router, refer to Fabric Cloud Router Inventory.
