AWS Direct Connect

AWS Direct Connect enables you to establish a dedicated network connection from your on-premise data center to your environment. This service:

  • Reduces network costs
  • Increases bandwidth through-put
  • Reduces latency
  • Increases security
  • Provides a more consistent network experience than Internet or IP-VPN connections.

Connecting to AWS

  1. In the AWS Management Console, go to Support, and select Support Center and find your Account number.

  2. Log in to the Equinix Fabric Portal.

  3. From Connections, select Create Connections.

  4. Select AWS, then click Create Connection.

  5. Choose the Origin Metro, Destination Port, and the Equinix FabricEquinix Fabric is an advanced interconnection solution that improves performance by providing a direct, private network connection Port.

  6. Enter the connection name, VLAN ID and AWS account number, then choose the connection speed.

  7. Review your information, including email addresses, then click Submit your order.

    The Success message appears and you are sent a confirmation email. Another email arrives letting you know the order is provisioned.

    You can confirm the connection status from the Inventory page.

  8. Go back to the AWS Console, and accept Direct Connect Hosted ConnectionConnection is a general term that refers to any solution that results in the ability to pass data from one point to another. Connections can be made with Layer 2 or Layer 3 technology, may involve several parts or components and can be created from the portal or with APIs in a variety of ways..

  9. Click Connections, then expand the connection.
  10. Check the charges confirmation box, then click Accept Connection.
