Innerduct

Innerduct enables customers to pull bulk fiber into the IBX from their local fiber network. Customers are responsible for pulling their fiber through the IBX. The Equinix Operations team meets with the customer to define the physical path.

Key components:

  • Customers must have a license to enter or run through an Equinix IBX, and a dedicated physical path made up of a flexible innerduct inside a larger conduit.

  • Innerducts typically originate from Building Meet-Me Rooms (BMMRs), manholes, or basements and run uninterrupted to the customer’s cage.

  • Each innerduct is typically 1 or 1.25 inches in diameter. However, size and materials can differ between IBX data centers. Customers can pull in a maximum of 432-strand fiber cable.

  • Customers must work with the Equinix Operations team to define the physical path of the innerduct.

  • For dark fiber connections associated with the innerduct product in AMER, a surcharge to the customers’ Cross Connects fees is applied when connecting between different parties leaving the Equinix data center.
