EBC Availability Concepts

Migration

Migrate your on-premises workload to EBC. After successful replication to the destination EBC site, you can failover the source virtual machine in your EBC Organization VDC. The failover completes the migration by powering-on the VM.

Protection

Protect a vApp or Virtual Machine from the primary EBC Organization VDC to a VDC in second Equinix data center. Protecting the source vApp or VM, will not affect it’s running state.

If the source site is unavailable, you can failover and power on the source virtual machine in the second Equinix data center.

Test Failover

When performing a test failover you can validate that the data from the source site replicates correctly to the destination site.

The test failover function is available for an on-prem to EBC migration and EBC Cloud to Cloud protection.

If you start a test failover the source virtual machine(s) stay powered on. The virtual machine on the destination Cloud site will run in a configured network you prefer.

Failover

In case of a disaster in which the source site becomes unavailable, you can start the protected virtual machines in the destination site and continue operation by performing a failover.

When you start a failover when the source site is available, the source virtual machine(s) stay powered on.

The virtual machine on the destination Cloud site will run in a configured network you prefer.

Reverse

After a successful failover it is possible to return the data from the destination site back to the source site by reversing the replication.

The reverse action will overwrite the source vApp or virtual machine. When the reverse task finishes you can test, failover or migrate back to the original source site.
