Verizon Software-Defined Interconnect (SDI)
Create a virtual connection with Verizon’s Private IP (PIP), Ethernet, or IP networks over Equinix Fabric using Verizon SDI. Two methods of access to the Verizon network are available:
- Verizon-ordered Access - Connect FROM Verizon to your Equinix infrastructure.
- Customer-ordered Access - Connect TO Verizon from your Equinix infrastructure.
The PIP Network is available through Customer-ordered or Verizon-ordered SDI through the Equinix Customer portal with either single (Dot1q) or double (QinQ) tagging.
Verizon-ordered Access
Provision a virtual connection FROM your Verizon Private WAN or Public WAN network through the Equinix Fabric to a z-side:
- Fabric Port
- Network Edge Device - Private IP Multi-VRF on the same PIP port is not supported due to Network Edge only allowing Dot1q encapsulation. Multiple connections to Network Edge can be supported using multiple A-side tokens representing multiple PIP ports.
- another Service Provider on Fabric.
Initiated through the Verizon portal, these are Equinix Fabric virtual connections that originate from the Verizon access points (Fabric ports) towards a service provider, a Fabric Port, or Network Edge virtual device.
You must obtain an A-side token from Verizon that is emailed to you. Then, you redeem the token when you create the connection in the Equinix Customer Portal or API. See Connections FROM Verizon for more information and examples. Generic instructions are available on the Redeem an A-Side Token page.
For more information about ordering SDI from Verizon, contact your Verizon sales representative for ordering instructions.
Customer-ordered Access
Equinix Fabric enables you to connect from your a-side:
- Fabric Port
- Network Edge Device
- Fabric Cloud Router
- Service Token
To your to your Verizon Private IP, Internet Dedicated Services, Ethernet E-Line, and Ethernet E-LAN networks. Use the Equinix Customer Portal to create a connection to a Verizon SDI service profile. See Connecting TO Verizon or Connecting Network Edge to Verizon for more information.
Verizon customers can connect to the PIP network in both Single and Multi-VRF configurations from their Fabric Ports. However, this option is not available when connecting from a Network Edge virtual device.
Bandwidth Options
Verizon offers two service profile options:
- Verizon Software Defined Interconnect offers 1 GB connections.
- Verizon Software Defined Interconnect - High BW offers 10 GB connections.
Authentication Keys
Customer-ordered Access requires a Verizon Authentication Key to activate the connection to Verizon. When you create a connection in the Equinix Customer Portal, you are issued the authentication key in the confirmation screen.
This authentication key is needed to complete the connection in the Verizon portal. The same authentication key can be used to create multiple connections over the same SDI, or you can choose to create a new Authentication Key for each subsequent connection. If you need to use a new or different authentication key, you must order a new SDI service instance from Verizon.
