Space Restrictions

A space restriction specifies when and how Equinix can physically enter your colocation space or Flex Space.

Ordering, viewing, modifying, and deleting space restrictions requires the Space Restriction permission. To view your current permissions or request more permissions, see Permissions.

Beginning in June 2025, space restriction orders can no longer be placed through Siebel Order Management.

  • Standard Orders - All new standard space restriction orders must now be placed through the ECP/Operator Self-Service Platform. This transition will allow for a more efficient and consistent process for submitting standard orders.

  • Non-Standard Orders - Non-standard space restriction orders must be placed through the Operator Portal by the GSD Team, as non-standard orders are currently not available via the ECP platform.

tip

To manage cage access for your own employees and vendors, see IBX Access Permissions.

  • Equinix reviews and approves customer-requested space restrictions based on feasibility at the specified IBX.

  • Customer areas with a space restriction require Equinix staff to adhere to the type of space restriction appointed by the customer.

  • Customer-requested space restrictions only apply to Equinix and Equinix vendors.

  • Where space restrictions exist, the SLA for activity fulfillment starts when access to the customer space is granted.

  • Equinix must be able to access customer spaces during emergencies and critical repair events, even if a space restriction is active. IBX staff will immediately enter the restricted customer space and notify the customer after.

  • Request for access by government law enforcement bypasses any space restriction agreement.

  • For periods when a space restriction is active, customers must provide a phone number and email address for a contact person who can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • During an active space restriction, your employees and vendors can access the space with a valid Work Visit ticket. The ticket serves as authorization for entry for the personnel listed in the ticket.
